IBRA -- His Highness Sayyid Asa'ad bin Tariq Al Said, representative of His Majesty the Sultan, yesterday opened new Ibra referral hospital built at a cost of around RO16 million.

Present at the ceremony were ministers, undersecretaries, sheikhs and dignitaries of the Sharqiyah region.

The chief guest said he was delighted to inaugurate the project which is one of the fruits of the blessed Renaissance era. He said the new hospital would provide citizens of the region with advanced medical services.

Dr Ali bin Mohammed Moosa, health minister, said this is the 10th referral hospital to be established in the Sultanate.

He added the ministry would complete other projects in the Sixth Five-Year Plan, including six health centres in the wilayats of the southern and northern Batinah region, a renal dialysis department at Al Buraimi hospital and others. These projects will be implemented in translation of the directives issued by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said during the annual meet-the-people tour in the wilayats this year.

Dr Ahmed bin Abdulqadir Al Ghassani, health affairs undersecretary at the ministry, said the project adds to the remarkable achievements of Oman's blessed Renaissance.

Ali bin Abdullah Al Habsi, director-general of health services in the northern Sharqiyah region, said the project was established in accordance with the latest standards adopted in building specialist hospitals. It was built on an area of around 30,000 square metres.

He added the new hospital includes 191 beds, outpatient clinics, emergency, specialist services, physiotherapy, intensive care, renal dialysis and primary health departments, a laboratory, an x-ray room, a pharmacy and other utilities.

The wali of Al Qabil, Sheikh Hilal bin Ghosn Al A'bri recited a poem on this occasion. This was followed by dances by folk troupes in the wilayats of the Sharqiyah region.

The chief guest unveiled the plaque and toured the various departments of the project and was briefed on the services offered by the hospital. -- ONA
