MUSCAT -- The Gulf-based EMKE Group has opened the second largest convention centre in India at Thrissur in Kerala.
The Lulu International Convention Centre, the largest in Kerala, was inaugurated by V. S. Achuthanandan, the chief minister of Kerala.
The centre, built at a cost of Rs400,000,000 and spread across 18 acres of land on the Thrissur-Guruvayur highway, has a total capacity for over 4,500 guests and dining facility for 2,000 people at a time.
Inaugurating the centre, Achuthanandan said: "This project is a very good example of non-resident Indian investment for the infrastructure and tourism development of Kerala and the cultural capital of Kerala will surely benefit a lot from this new project. I hope more NRIs will follow the example set by Yusuffali and make more and more investments in Kerala. My government will always support and extend all possible help for any meaning full employment-generating projects in the state".
The inaugural function was presided over by Oommen Chandy, former chief minister and opposition leader, and was attended by Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran, C.K. Chandrappan, member of parliament; Terambil Ramakrishnan, member of legislative assembly; Prof. R. Bindu, mayor of Thrissur Municipal Corporation; Premachandran Kurup, Thrissur district collector, and many other prominent politicians and government officials.
Apart from other facilities the convention centre also has a hotel with 50 rooms and restaurants and a helipad of international standards. Speaking on the occasion Yusuffali MA, managing director of the EMKE Group and the Lulu International Convention Centre, said: "This is our first major investment in Kerala and we have already planned for more similar investments in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and also add a five-star hotel to this convention centre in Thrissur".
Ashraf Ali MA, executive director of the EMKE Group, proposed a vote of thanks.
