Safety awareness week observed
Meanwhile, to ensure improved safety standards in the Sultanate, Oman LNG engaged staff, their families and the wider society in a week of activities to generate and sustain awareness in health, safety and environment (HSE). The HSE Week activities commenced in Sur, the location of the company's natural gas liquefaction facility, with an inspirational presentation on Road Safety by renowned speaker Khalfan al Esry.

He dwelt upon the need for safe driving, a crucial topic for the country which experienced over 110 accidents in the last week of 2009 alone, according to the Royal Oman Police website. Other activities included a seminar on health and diet, sporting activities at the Hay al Sharooq (HAS) Sports Hall, beach cleaning, a walkathon and health screening to check participants' blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels and providing follow-up advice.

At the company's Muscat head office, the programme continued with presentations by Al Esry, the Royal Oman Police on road traffic and the Civil Defence on fire safety with a similar walkathon. Side attractions for the week which closed with a full day programme at the Oman Club, Al Khuwair on Thursday included a variety of fun, race and games like football, volleyball, running, egg and spoon race, sponge water delivery and tug of war.

Dr Brian Buckley, Oman LNG's Chief Executive Officer, commenting on the need for a sustained awareness in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) noted: "At Oman LNG, priority is given to health, safety and environment in all we do.

Not just as a responsible organisation but as responsible people in the society. Whilst we have dedicated this week to HSE, it's important to note that we must all have an orientation that puts health, safety and the environment at the forefront of our activities and commitments 365 days in the year. Last year we launched our 12 Life Saving Rules and continue to be guided by them in all our activities."
