MUSCAT — Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, minister of commerce and industry, presided over a ceremony to launch a promotion campaign to boost domestic tourism, entitled My Beautiful Oman, held at the Shell filling station in Azaiba yesterday.

“The campaign is an excellent venture considering there are many beautiful summer tourism destinations in the Sultanate such as Jabal Al Akhdar, Jabal Al Shams, Al Ashkhirah, Al Wusta region and Salalah,” he said.

The three-month-long campaign will help the citizens and residents of the Sultanate familiarise themselves with local tourism destinations and geographical advantages.

Mohsin bin Khamis Al Balushi, undersecretary for tourism at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, launched the exciting holiday campaign.

The campaign was initiated by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Directorate of Tourism in association with Shell Oman Marketing.

It would encourage the local population to explore the beautiful areas and leisure facilities of the country.

“The cooperation between the Ministry of Commerce and Shell Oman Marketing in launching this campaign represents the strong ties between the private and the government sector to develop domestic tourism in the region.

“It is a great chance for locals and expatriates to learn more about Oman and its major destinations,” said Balushi at a press conference at Seeb Novotel Hotel yesterday.

The campaign has the trappings of a holiday guide, which includes information on all major hotels and tourist destinations throughout the Sultanate.

It is a very comprehensive guide for the tourist, offering information on a variety of leisure facilities that tourists need, in addition to information about Oman and its culture and heritage.

The holiday guide, entitled My Beautiful Oman — A Short Break Holiday Guide, will be available free at all Select Convenient Stores of Shell Oman. The holiday guide will have special promotions in Arabic and English. Two hundred thousand copies in Arabic and one hundred thousand copies in English will be distributed.

A very special prize is being offered as part of the campaign. The guide includes coupons that when stamped by any tourist business and returned to a drop-box in any Shell Oman station entitle the holder to partake in a draw for a 90-minute “Flight sight-seeing trip” over My Beautiful Oman as a prize.

Oman is proudly offering this unique flight to 20 winning couples to view some of the Sultanate’s wonderful mountains, coastline, desert and wadis.

“Marketing is very important to promote a destination. We need to play an important role to market our country. Therefore, this will maintain the tourism projects which will result in more economic flow and, therefore, tourism flow,” Balushi added.

The three-month-long campaign aimed at both Omanis and expatriates will promote the various regions of the Sultanate with the hotels, restaurants, local tour operators and camps offering special packages.

Special offers are provided on posters at all Shell Select stores. More information on offers is available at www.beauifuloman.com.

Irshad Al Lawati, managing director of Shell Oman Marketing Company, said: “We at Shell Oman are pleased to be part of this initiative to promote Oman tourism to the people of Oman.

“We all need to know more about our own country and to spend more of our leisure time in our own country for the benefit of our national economy,” he observed.
