MUSCAT -- A modified and updated version of the website on His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, originally introduced in 2008, has been launched in Muscat recently. Since the initial launch three years ago, it has undergone constant changes for betterment and now with an attractive new design inspired by the architecture of Oman with its castles, forts, towers and mosques, the website can be read in 14 languages. These languages include, along with Arabic, English, French, Hindi, Portuguese, Korean, Persian, Swahili, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Chinese and Spanish. Its Malayalam version will be soon added based on the first Indian book on His Majesty by Observer reporter Kabeer Yousuf.

"Our love for His Majesty Sultan Qaboos (may God protect him) and our admiration of his remarkable accomplishments in building up our country, inspired us to develop the website 'Oman Qaboos', which was originally launched to coincide with the 38th National Day in 2008," website designer Hamoud bin Mohammed al Azri said. "It has been a tremendous privilege for me to be involved in making this website out of loyalty to His Majesty, and to this dear country. I was keen that the high character and personal excellence of His Majesty should be made known throughout the world, hence the site has been translated into 14 languages," Al Azri added.

'Oman Qaboos' has received a number of prestigious awards, and was recognised by the Arab Academy for the Internet in Lebanon, in co-operation with Microsoft, as the best website in the category 'Kings and Heads of State', for two years in succession. It was the first time that this category has seen a website translated into as many as 14 languages.

Speaking on the re-launch of the website yesterday, the website designer stated that the aim of this endeavour is "to present a simple expression of our love for His Majesty, for our great leader with his wise policies, and to thank him for all that he has done and continues to do with such generosity for his people. It is also an unimaginable joy and pride for me to be able to contribute to raising the profile of my country in this way. The success of 'Oman Qaboos' website should not be considered a success for me alone but for Oman as a whole. It is the result of our profound appreciation of His Majesty, who taught us and urged us always to be innovative. It is thus my great honour to present 'Oman Qaboos', as a gift to His Majesty and to the nation.

"I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to all who contributed and provided support for this national action, especially the Ministry of Information and the Information Technology Authority".
