MUSCAT — The first branded food court was formally inaugurated at Seeb International Airport yesterday. Saad Bahwan, chairman of the board of Oman Airport Management Company, along with Abbas Hussain, deputy chairman of Jawad Business Group, opened the food court by ‘biting’ into a jumbo burger made especially for the occasion. Oman Airports’ Management Company (OAMC), signed an eight-year catering concession agreement with Jawad International Projects LLC yesterday. The new food court heralds another step ftoward in the implementation of retail strategy for the airport. The new food court is the first of the two to be opened at the airport this year. It features the first-ever Caesar’s Pizza in Oman and marks the welcome return of Dairy Queen burgers and ice creams, besides the Magic Wok Chinese.

Colin Hobbs, chief executive of OAMC, said: “This is a special development for Muscat. Not only is it a major improvement in the retail facilities for our passengers but also for the general public. The food court has been rightly placed in the public arrivals area, so that even those who are visiting the airport, or plan to treat their family to a meal out, can eat here. “Both Dairy Queen and Caesar’s Pizza will give people the chance to try an alternative to cuisine offered in Oman to date. The outlet offers excellent choice, quality and value for money at the airport.”

Visiting Muscat for the occasion, Abbas Hussain, deputy chairman of JBG, said: “We are very excited with the new airport restaurant at Seeb International. We are convinced that people of Oman will enjoy the food offered here.

“In a few weeks we will open another food court in the departure lounge at Seeb, as well as Woodland’s Restaurant at Salalah International Airport. The Jawad Business Group remains committed to serving the local community in every possible way. We are happy to provide job opportunities and contribute to the personal development of Omani citizens by training them in the highest standards the international food service industry has to offer.”

Seating 120 diners and three exclusively decorated Internet booths (equipped with the latest in digital technology), the food court offers a full range of burgers and sandwich meals. There are also soups, salads and pizzas of all kinds, together with a selection of classic Indian dishes.
