MUSCAT -- Ericsson, the world's leading telecommunications company, yesterday announced that it will be the premier sponsor of PEIE and KOM events throughout 2007. According to PEIE management, Ericsson played a pivotal role in the launch of KOM's Digital Nation program (www.kom.om.ev.html) and PEIE's Oman Manufacturing Group (www.peie.om/omg.asp) earlier in March.

Ericsson personnel will also be participating at PEIE's annual flagship Smart Manufacturing Conference (www.peie.om/smartman.asp) scheduled to be held on April 15-16 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Smart Manufacturing will include nine panels on topics ranging from finance, design, marketing, packaging, ICT, strategy, IPR, education and training to Lean.

Ericsson is a world-leading provider of telecommunications equipment and related services to mobile and fixed network operators globally. Over 1,000 networks in 140 countries utilise their network equipment and 40 per cent of all mobile calls are made through Ericsson systems. "Ericsson is one of the few companies worldwide that can offer end-to-end solutions for all major mobile communication standards and we're proud to have them as a strategic marketing partner," said Hamad al Harthy, Director-General, Rusayl Industrial Estate.

PEIE's Smart Manufacturing conference will feature presentations by industry gurus and pundits including world renowned manufacturing expert Professor Mike Gregory of Cambridge University; Shell's Andy Wood, GroFin Oman's Abeer al Abduwani; Reem Batteries' S Gopalan; Chris Clark of Agility; Dr Ahmed Khalil al Mutawa from the Gulf Organisation for Industrial Consulting; David Crickmore of Amouage; Dr Salem al Ismaily of OCIPED; and Hossam Farid of Oracle.

"The conference has an outstanding line-up of over 40 domestic and international speakers and everybody in manufacturing should be there," commented Peter Andersson, Ericsson's Country Manager. "We've participated and supported KOM and PEIE events in the past and we think they offer Ericsson an outstanding opportunity to meet with public and private sector representatives and show them what Ericsson can offer.  Indeed, we encourage attendees to meet with the Ericsson team at Smart Manufacturing to get an overview of the technologies we have implemented around the globe and initiatives that have helped increase productivity and reduce costs," remarked Andersson.
