MUSCAT — BP Oman, Oman’s only 100 per cent Omani company, has embarked on a pilot scheme for testing the new logo and styles for use on all of the future sites throughout the Sultanate. This has already been tested at an ‘unfamiliar filling station’ near Seeb — a completely new and innovative petrol station, a press release said.

BP Oman (whose name will be changed to reflect the new shareholding) has constructed the test site as part of the rebranding process that has been underway for quite some time.

The new brand, which was being developed for nearly a year, will be officially launched in October this year. Before the launch it will be necessary to experiment with different materials, colours and textures to achieve the desired effect as well as gauging the reaction of the general public before the brand is rolled out in full.

All of the existing BP Oman sites will be replaced by the new brand stations by the end of May 2004. BP Plc sold its’ majority share to Oman Oil Company (OOC) in December 2002, making it the only 100 per cent Omani owned oil company.

Speaking about the new look, Mike Wilson, managing director of BP Oman, says: “Developing an effective and strong brand is no light matter. We needed to ensure that our new look represents our business, our brand values and the energy that we see in our employees and experience in day-to-day business. So far we’re extremely pleased with the results and hope that the general public and our shareholders will agree.”

Talking about the future and when all will be revealed, Wilson added: “All we can say now is watch out for the full announcement in October when we will be able to offer the motoring public in Oman a new and fresh look together with other initiatives into the future. These are exciting times for us and for the future of oil marketing in Oman.”
