MUSCAT -- OCIPED in coordination with International Trade Centre (ITC), Geneva has established access to various market analysis tools for enhancing the transparency of global trade and market access. Omani exporters are familiar with Trademap and Productmap which provides indicators for monitoring and benchmarking Oman's export performance, identifying potential for market and product diversification and assessing the role of competitors in international markets. The International Trade Centre has developed additional market analysis tools, such as Market Accessmap, CountryMap, and Investment map to help users in their market analyses.
Thanks to financial contributions from ITC's Global Trust Fund and the World Bank, as of January 1, 2008, all users from developing countries may access the ITC's market analysis tools free of charge. To explain various new features of the Market Analysis Tools to the Export Development Working group of OCIPED, the Directorate General of Export Development/OCIPED invited Anders Aeroe, Chief, Division of Market Development, Market Analysis and Research Section, International Trade Centre UNCTAD/WTO (ITC) to the Sultanate on March 31, 2008.
Anders had discussions with an elite group of exporters and export services companies and made presentation on various features of the market analysis tools and urged the Omani exporters, traders and service organisations to use these free tools and urged them to use the following information: What are the world largest importing countries for a product? Which countries are the most competitive suppliers of a product? Where are the major competitors, at the global level as well as for specific target markets? Which are the most dynamic markets? How has Oman's market share evolved, in absolute terms and in comparison with its competitors? What is the demand in my major export markets for related products, offering opportunities for export product diversification? What is the actual and potential trade between any two countries? and, Custom duties applicable for over 5000 products across 200 countries.
Aiman Ambusaidi, Director of Export Development of OCIPED, urged the exporters to visit OCIPED website (www.ociped.com) to get the required market intelligence for going global. The International Trade Centre has developed five web portals: Trade Map, Market Access Map, Investment Map, Trade Competitiveness Map and Product Map to enhance the transparency of global trade and market access and to help users in their market analyses. Users from developing countries, such as Oman, can register through Ociped's website to acquire free access. The new registration system allows users to access TradeMap, Market Access Map and Investment Map with an email address as common login name.
