MUSCAT -- The Nursing and Midwifery Department of Al Nahdha Hospital organised a one-day Workshop on 'Nursing Documentation' yesterday at Muscat Holiday Hotel which was inaugurated by Ms Sharifa al Jabri, President-Oman Nursing and Midwifery Council and with Dr Qamra Al Sariri, Executive Director of Al Nahdha Hospital as the guest of honour.
The target audiences were nurses and about 200 nurses from all over Oman have attended this event.
Ms Farida al Abrawi, Head of Nursing and Midwifery Service opened the workshop by briefing the theme of this event -- Nursing Documentation and its importance in delivering health care to the patients.
Documentation is not separate from care and it is not optional. It is an integral part of nursing practice and an important tool that nurses use to ensure high quality client care.
Documentation is any written or electronically generated information that describes the care or service provided to the clients.
The workshop focused on vital elements of documentation that are accurate, legal, credible and comprehensive in nursing documentation.
Documentation is vital to assess the clients' health status, nursing intervention and outcomes.
Therefore to cope up with the demands and challenges in the health care service, documentation must be accurate, legal, credible and comprehensive.
Documentation is also essential throughout the nursing practice as it is a valuable tool to support effective communication between care providers and continuity of care within and across settings.
It also promotes good nursing care and support nurses to meet professional and legal standards.
The objectives of the Nursing Documentation workshop are mainly to increase staff awareness on the importance of documentation as an element that contributes to high quality of care.
They also seeks to enhance staff knowledge and skills that contributes to a better health care service through proper communication.
The workshop also aims to standardise nursing documentation based on legal and ethical aspects and also mainly creates staff awareness on the importance of proper documentation through posters, scenarios and quizzes.
