Dubai The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has auctioned off 15 distinguished number plates of motorcycles for the first time ever in an open RTA Distinguished Number Plate auction; during the session which was held at Al Mina Hall of Jumeirah Beach Hotel on December 19.

"Total proceeds of the 65th Distinguished Number Plates Auction, the last to be held in 2009, hit Dh14,040,000 led by the sales topper (G 111); which was sold for Dh1.52 million," Ahmad Behroozian CEO of Licensing Agency at RTA, said.

He added that the auction attracted huge number of bidders whose number exceeded 400 persons; which has reflected positively on the success of the event.

Opening four auction registration points at Deira Traffic, Main Customer Service Center at RTA Head Office, Aswaq Al Mizher, and the Bidding Floor on the day of the auction also contributed to its success, Behroozian said.

The number plate (I 60) came second fetching Dh1.5 million, followed by (G 66666) which was sold for Dh520,000 and (H 2000) selling for Dh304,000.

The highest priced motorbike plate sold was (40000), which was auctioned for Dh48,000.

In demand

Ninety plates were sold in the latest number plates auction including three two-digit plates; namely (I 60, F 98 and G 52), in addition to 21 three-digit plates, 27 four-digit plates, and 39 five-digit plates spanning six categories (D, E, F, G, H and I).

Category I comprised 4 plates, while there were two plates for category E, 22 plates for category G, and 15 plates for category H, whereas category F was the highest on offer with 43 licensing plates.

"The 65th Auction witnessed heated competition among the 400 plus bidders in attendance, including spectators, featured 15 distinguished motorbike licensing plates; which generated an equal amount of interest among bidders that compares well with vehicle number plates bidding.

"Bidders hailed from various spectrums of the community and nationalities; which in itself bears a strong relevance to the continuing success of distinguished number plate auctions; the number of which has now reached 65," Behroozian said.

Logistics

He added: "Many logistical and operational factors have contributed to the success of this auction.

"Examples of these include mobilising all resources to promote the auction and the numbers in offer, proper planning for successful marketing of the auction through various communication media reaching out to various segments of the community, attracting official media support to the auction, and establishing an integrated work team to present the auction program in the best manner.

"Other contributing factors include announcing the auction more than 15 days in advance, proper organisation of the venue and timely coordination with the auctioneer company.
