Dubai: National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) of General Holdings Co, Abu Dhabi, is competing with Hyundai to win a contract for the construction of oil rigs in the Umm Shaeef oil field.
The project calls for building three latest-technology oil rigs to permit expanded export operations from Das Island.
Gulf News was told that the name of the successful bidder will be announced this month. The total estimated cost of the project is $800 million, or Dh2.94 billion.
The project includes building three new marine oil rigs, connected to a marine pipeline with the main complex.
Two of them are about two kilometres from the main complex.
The floating pressure rig weighs about 11,500 tonnes, and a facility to separate oil derivatives will be built on the third oil rig, which weighs about 6,000 tonnes, and is connected to the current complex.
The project is being handled by the Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc).
ADMA's work is mainly concentrated in two marine fields Umm Shaeef and Zakum.
Oil and gas are produced and collected in these two fields, through pipelines. It is then treated, separated, and stored before being exported.
