Dr Jennifer Dupont is the new research director of ExxonMobil Research Qatar (EMRQ), it was announced yesterday.

Her priorities include building and expanding upon EMRQ's proven technical capabilities in areas of water reuse, environmental management, safety and coastal/geological research.

She is also responsible for enhancing communications of EMRQ technical data, processes, and technologies to important stakeholders including the Ministry of Environment, Qatar Petroleum, research partners and academia.

ExxonMobil's commitment to research, safety, health and environment align the company with Qatar's National Vision 2030 to protect and preserve people and environment.

At EMRQ, scientists are undertaking research in several disciplines, with significant environmental focus, to help achieve these goals.

Bart Cahir, president and general manager of ExxonMobil Qatar, said. "We share Qatar's view that advancements in technology play a critical role in meeting the energy demands and challenges of the future, and Dr Dupont is poised to play an important part in both advancing technology as well as meeting the goals of QNV 2030."

"Since its inauguration in 2009, EMRQ's research team has collected, analysed, and delivered a vast amount of data; my aim is to make linkages between EMRQ experts and a wider audience within Qatar," Dr Dupont said.

"This opportunity is equally exciting both personally and professionally with the prospect of supplying a scientific basis for potential coastal management plans, biodiversity action plans, air emissions work, water resource management, and safer industry operations, all leading to fulfilling objectives as outlined in the QNV."

Dr Dupont, a US citizen, joined EMRQ in December 2013 as Environmental Team Lead. She earned her BS degree in Biology from the University of Richmond and her Ph D in Marine Ecology from the University of South Florida, College of Marine Science.
