The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) will start this month new-look utility bills.

The Cabinet announced a waiver on Value Added Tax (VAT) last Monday, based on the recommendation of the executive committee, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

Electrity and Water Affairs Minister Wael Al Mubarak issued an amended edict on the new utility bill, including VAT which will be shouldered by the government from this month.

“The waiver of VAT incurred in the utility bill reflects the government’s keenness to meet citizens and residents’ needs,” said the ministry.

It stressed its resolve to continue to develop the electricity and water sectors in Bahrain and enhance consumer services.

The ministry has finished calculating the amounts of the utility bills incurred on the first house owned by citizens for June, July, August, September, October and November last year, based on the same tariffs for the the same period in 2018, provided they are below 2019 amounts.
