A new fish market in the wilayat of Barka was opened to public on Thursday.

Part of the Barka Port Development Project (Barka Marina), one of the most promising projects in the wilayat that serves fisheries and tourism sectors, the fish market has 72 shops for sellers, 21 for fish cutting, and selling sites for fishermen and fish transporters, in addition to logistics infrastructure necessary for fishermen.

The opening ceremony was held in adherence with the precautionary measures set by the departments concerned.

The opening included operating all facilities related to the fish market, regulating the entry of fish transport vehicles and transporting fish from boats to the auctioning area, as well as operating the auctioning system at the designated site.

Authorised vendors received the outlets designated for fish selling and cutting according to the regulations of fish markets issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. The Barka Marina project is coming up at a cost RO55mn spread over 115,200sqm. The building area is 105,000sqm, the leasable area is 40,000sqm, while the number of commercial units stands at 450.
