Fujairah - Preparation works will start in the coming few days for the construction of a new fish market at the fishermen's port area in Raghilat.
His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, had allocated a large plot of land for the market, in order to comply with the architectural and population expansion in Fujairah.
The total cost of the project is more than one million dirhams. The building will consist of two storeys and will include 50 shops and will be equipped with a central air conditioning system for all shops and sections.
Refrigerators for fish and for storage as well as other relevant vendor necessities will be provided, including a specific area for cleaning fish and issuance of commercial licenses.
The first floor will include special units or rooms for the monitoring sections. Thus, special rooms for the fishermen society notary and for the health section to monitor the market and the issuance of commercial licenses will be installed.
The old market will consequently cease to exist and its building, which lies in the midst of town and which contains 20 shops for selling vegetables and 14 tables for fish mongering, will be exploited for better purposes.
Shaikh Hamad had visited last week the natural marine sanctuary at Raghilat. Small fish in addition to "Al-Subaity" rare fish were placed in the sanctuary, which is 65 m long and 35m wide.
Abdullah Al Dally, Head of Fujairah Fishermen Association, explained that the new sanctuary will provide annually around five million fish from different types and sizes, particularly Al Hamoor, Al Sal, Al Kofar and Al Sheary.
