Abu Dhabi, 25 March 2009 (WAM) - The National Center for Documentation and Research (NCDR) today organized a news conference to announce launching its latest publication "New Perspectives in Recording UAE History".
The volume includes 25 papers by outstanding historians and scientists, delving deep into the distant past and documenting millions of years of UAE history in light of recent archeological discoveries. All the papers were translated into Arabic/English. Advance copies were presented to media representatives. The publication comes within the context of the NCDR policy of broadening historical awareness among the UAE people in a bid to further deepen their sense of belonging and appreciation of their ancestors struggle and ways of living through the ages as per directives by HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the NCDR. The launching ceremony was preceded by a lecture by Dr. James Onley, Director of Gulf Studies and Senior Lecturer in Middle Eastern History, on his book entitled: Arabian Frontiers of the British Raj: Merchants, Rulers and the British in the Nineteenth Century Gulf. The lecture dealt with one of the most forbidden frontier zones of Britains Indian empire. It showed how Britains Political Residency in the Gulf, which was responsible for Britains relationship with Easter Arabia and southern Asia, was part of an extensive network of political residencies that surrounded and [protected British India until 1947. It was the responsibility of Britains political residencies in the Gulf and their few staff of officers to maintain the Pax Britannica on the waters of the Gulf, protect British interests throughout the region and manage political relations\ with the dozens of Arab rulers and governors on both shores of the Gulf.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2009.
