MUSCAT: Home owners in Oman can now insurance the contents of their homes against problems like natural disasters and burglary, thanks to a new initiative by the National Bank of Oman (NBO).
NBO and its partner Axa Insurance announced the Himayati Home Insurance Plan yesterday at a press conference in Ruwi.
Hanaa Al Hinai, of NBO, said that since Gonu occurred in 2007 more people are concerned about insurance and NBO wants to keep up with their needs, which includes protecting their home contents and personal belongings.
"This is yet another significant initiative from NBO that will provide our customers a highly useful product designed to give them personal security," said Harsh Munjal, NBO general manager for retail and private banking.
Most mortgage insurance covers buildings but not the content of homes, so this insurance plan will offer better coverage in case of cyclones, fires or even burglaries, explained Deepak Kamath, Axa Insurance's country manager for Oman.
As more disasters like Gonu and Phet come to Oman, there is a greater need for insurance coverage. In addition to home content insurance, NBO customers will also be able to buy insurance for "important documents," for 'domestic helpers' and 'building' cover.
Himayati Home Insurance will be available for as little as RO3 per month. If customers opt for an annual payment plan, they will also receive free basic travel insurance, Kamath added.
Kamath said the new insurance plan is not only affordable, but easy for customers to understand and simple to purchase with a 'tick-box' policy.
The introduction of a home contents insurance plan is meant to add value to NBO's services, Munjal explained.
"For us the key objective has been to constantly, consistently and repeatedly add value to the customer," Munjal said. "The customer must win every day."
NBO partnered with Axa Insurance for this initiative because they offered the most competitive rates and best package for the customers, Munjal added.
In 2009, NBO and Axa launched the Himayati Life Insurance Plan, and they hope their new partnership will be just as successful.
