ABU DHABI 13 Sep, 04 (WAM) - The National Admissions and Placement Office(NAPO) at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research haslaunched a recruitment campaign to attract students to the various governmenthigher educational institutions in the UAE.
The campaign by the NAPO officials for the academic year 2004-2005 targetsGrade 12 students and is being conducted in two phases - including a workshopfor the academic counsellors and social workers in schools and visitsto over 280 higher schools in the seven Educational Zones, said SubhaK. Al Shamisi, Deputy Head, NAPO yesterday according to the +KhaleejTimes.+ Education councillors from the Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE Universityand Zayed University - the three government institutions for higher studiesin the country - and Tanmia officials are also participating in the campaignthat will go on till October last.
"The very purpose of the recruiting campaign is to help students plantheir academic career well in advance by providing them with informationon higher education in the UAE including profiles of various institutions,application and admission procedures etc," she said.
According to Subha Al Shamisi, this year's special focus is on onlineeducation since there are an increasing number of students opting fore-learning in higher studies.
In addition, there will also be group discussions on subjects varyingfrom the importance of early counselling, career orientation and parents'role to enhancing mechanism of cooperation with higher educational institutionsand schools and initiatives that serve students.
Regarding Tanmia's role in the campaign, Subha explained thatthe involvement of National Human Resource Development and EmploymentAuthority in the Recruiting Campaign since last year has proved to bevery fruitful.
"They offer the prospective job seekers an overview of UAE employmentmarket both at present and in four or five years to come, as well as futureemployment requirements along with a briefing on Tanmia's services andPlanning and Career Orientation Centre," she added.
According to her, more and more students are being made aware of theimportance of accurately filling up the common application form, if theywish to pursue higher education in the UAE, and the percentage of formssubmitted with inaccurate or incomplete information has been very lowin the recent years.
The NAPO will distribute the common application forms to EducationalZones this week, in which the students have to specify their choice ofinstitution and faculty in order of preference apart from their personalinformation.
"Though they have to submit the form before the end of this month, theNAPO will give them time until the end of this year to review their decision,"Subha explained.
