Dubai, Feb 04th, 2008 (WAM): Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, minister of higher education and scientific research and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology opened here today the 1st International Conference on Drug Design and Discovery.
Over 500 research chemists, pharmacologists, biotechnologists and other allied professionals from 55 countries are participating in the conference co-organized by Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE and Eureka Science Ltd. In his opening address Sheikh Nahyan thanked Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, deputy ruler of Dubai and UAE minister of finance and industry for patronising the conference. He said that the unique vision and the prudent leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has made UAE a place of peace and security and a destination for scientists and scholars from all around the world. Nahyan pointed out that the 21st century is the century of life sciences and the discovery of modern medicines will enormously improve the health care. The conference is attended by leading scientists including 14 Nobel Laureates from academia and industry world wide. The event creates an exclusive platform to discuss the latest developments in various fields of drug design and discovery. The conference will bring out many interesting perspectives on how the science and technology of drug discovery is changing and will continue to change in the modern era.
