Prominent poets from all over the UAE will participate in the first ever Pashtu language Mushairah (poetry recitation programme) being held in Sharjah to mark the United Nations World Language Day.
The Mushairah, which is being organised by Emirates Pashtu Literary Society, will be held at the Pakistan Social Centre in Sharjah on February 20, and is open to the public.
"The Pashtu Mushairah will also provide an entertainment opportunity for the Pashtu speaking community, mainly from the North Western Frontier Province of Pakistan, living in the UAE," said organiser.
Pashtu language scholars including Halide Khan and Karma Mandoo Khel will deliver special lectures focusing on the importance of the mother tongue.
Prominent Pashtu community leaders including Abdul Nabi Bangash will preside over the function, and Yousuf Khan Durrani will be the chief guest.
Poets will include: Ilyas Talwal, Sabir Ahmed Sabir, Fazal Rahim, Amin Bangash, Habib Ullah Habib, Khalid Khan Hasrat, Karam Mandoo Khel, Mohammed Gul Man-soor, Mohammed Hayat, Mumtaz Orakzai, Riaz Qandiwala, Sardaraz Khan Khattak, Tamash Afridi, Zafar Hussain Zafar, Abdullah Waheed, Ali Rehman Mahroom, Nek Soorani, Ejaz Khattak, Mir Saeed Jauhar and Noor Ullah Kan Murad.
