Abu Dhabi: Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, followed up the efforts of Civil Defence and police teams in controlling an electricity feeding station fire which started on Wednesday in Al Musaffah in Abu Dhabi.
Colonel Juma Salim Al Dahmani, Assistant Director General of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Department, also announced that the fire was controlled by the Civil Defence, emergency and general safety teams at 2:40am on Thursday.
He added that there were no human injuries and the fire extinguishing teams were still present late in the day at the fire site to cool it off.
Col Al Dahmani affirmed that the initial investigations have shown that the reason behind the fire was due to a short circuit fault inside the transformer which led to an increase of the oil temperature inside the transformer which eventually led to the ignition stage. The fire was controlled and isolated from the rest of the electricity transformers at the Dh400 million power plant, and a major disaster was averted.
He also added that the accident burnt up three major transformers, but pointed out that their cost is considered trivial in comparison to the efforts made by the civil defence and public safety teams.
Col Al Dahmani also mentioned that many other departments took part in the fire extinguishing efforts such as the fire extinguishing department at the Dafra Air Base, the Armed Forces, Abu Dhabi Police, a plane from the Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing which filmed the accident aerially and many other departments.
