MUSCAT -- The logo of the forthcoming Municipal council has been approved, with the theme "Participation is a Right" superimposed, laying emphasis on the importance of citizens exercising their suffrage rights, said Sayyida Tamadhur bint Badr al Busaidiya, Director of Electoral Affairs at the Ministry of Interior. About the forthcoming Municipal Council elections, Sayyida Tamadhur has said that the names of candidates are currently being reviewed to ensure that each one meets the conditions.

The date of the Municipal Council elections will be announced later, she said, adding that the ministry is working hard on the development of automated system to facilitate the successful process of enumeration of votes. Sayyida Tamadhur urged citizens to ensure the validity and readiness of their identity cards for voting in the Municipal Council to help avoid any technical emergency during the process of elections.

The cards can be checked by accessing the Municipal elections website (mc.election.gov.om) or at the offices of the respective walis or by visiting the mobile units entrusted with installing the digital system in the identity cards of the citizens. Sayyida Tamadhur also urged all those aged age 21 years to install the electronic system on their identity cards, which is a prerequisite for registration and voting.
