Sharjah: A photography exhibition titled "Mosques Around the World" was inaugurated by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, at Qanat Al Qasba on Sunday.
Organised by the Awqaf General Trust as part of the Islamic Art Festival, in association with the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, this is the first time that such an exhibition has been displayed.
The exhibition portrays over 150 photographs of mosques from more than 48 countries.
It was opened to the public in the presence of Jamal Salem Al Turaifi, Director General of Awqaf General Trust and Marwan Jasim Al Sarkal, Chief Executive of Qanat Al Qasba Development Authority.
The exhibition is held at the Maraya Al Qanat - Gallery Hall and will run until October 8 from 8.30pm to 12am daily.
It highlights mosques in various cultures such as Russia, Pakistan, India, Sweden, the Far East countries, GCC countries and Turkey.
The photographs speak volumes about history and culture and showcase some amazing architectural designs that highlight the spread of Islam across the world.
Ceramic
Dr Shaikh Sultan also made a tour to review the exhibition of Iraqi artist Mahmoud Hassan titled "Wejdaniat" featuring 35 ceramic artworks.
Hassan's calligraphy and various artworks that have a strong Islamic influence have been hailed as one of the most exquisite in modern Arabic art.
The exhibition portrays over 150 photographs of mosques in more than 48 countries. It highlights mosques in different cultures.
