DOHA - More than 900 female students attended Qatar University's student orientation programme.
At the programme, Dr Khaled Al-Ali, director, Foundation Programme, and Deans of College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Engineering outlined the respective courses and programmes to the students.
Dr Al-Ali told the students that they are joining a programme that will prepare them for entering one of the Colleges to pursue their specialisation. "This will give you a solid base of skills in English, mathematics and computer literacy which will enhance your personal and academic life here at QU", he said.
College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Dr Siham Al-Qaradawi outlined the programs available at the College, adding that a new Environmental Science programme for females had recently been established. She noted that graduates from the College will feel confident that their BSc and BA degrees will be relevant to the job market in Qatar.
"Your knowledge and skills are the key to your advancing to further studies or entering employment. QU prepares you to be an active knowledgeable participant and contributor to the development of Qatar and its community", Dr Al-Qaradawi said
Dr Mazen O Hasna, Dean of College of Engineering said: "The College offers you a range of courses that will produce talented engineers who can hold their own, here, in the region and abroad. The new course for females in Electrical Engineering is an exciting addition and we look forward to your joining us", Dr Hasna said.
Presentations were also made on QU's e-facilities and the Banner system and provided with information on the Undergraduate Experience Program (UREF), a research initiative under the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF); Special Needs Center; Student Learning Support Center; Student Counseling Center; Career Services; Student Fund Section; student housing; and extra-curricular activities.
