Abu Dhabi, July 8th, 2008(WAM)--HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces received here today Arab water ministers and officials.
The Ministers are participating in the launch of the Arab Water Academy which is being organised by the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency in conjunction with the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture. During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed called on officials to evolve strategies for rational and sustainable use of water resources. He stressed the need to take environmental impacts into account when devising water management policies. The Arab Water Academy was launched in a ceremony at the Emirates Palace in the presence of several Ministers of Water from the Arab Region. The ceremony was followed by a Workshop on the Planning & Design of AWA-Flagship Courses. The Arab Water Academy has been established as a training institute by the Arab Water Council, supported by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), International centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), the Islamic Development Bank and the World Bank. It is a specialized institute established to articulate, design and implement new training initiatives to enhance capacity building in the water sector.
