Microsol's new engineering and assembly facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone was opened yesterday.
The Dubai opening is part of a wider worldwide expansion. Microsol last year opened offices in a technology park in Tyneside, England, and next month the company will open its new US office in Connecticut.
This follows Microsol's $2 million purchase of Connecticut-based ATS, a well-established supplier of specialised engineering services to the power industry.
The local office was opened by Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corp. (PCFC), and Ireland's Minister for Trade and Commerce, Michael Aherne.
Microsol already has a significant installed base with utility companies in Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia. The company is also set to raise up to $5 million in funding to be used for further expansion worldwide.
Funding is expected to be provided by existing shareholders, including ICC Venture Capital, Anglo Irish Bank, Enterprise Ireland and Cairn Holdings.
Microsol Limited formed in 1986 with a headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, supplies a range of information, communications and automation products and services for electric power utilities.
"We are unique in that our products can be used to integrate a wide variety of systems across the utilities transmission and distribution networks. We have found that having a local support base, with local assembly and engineering services helps us deliver what the market demands more effectively," said Mark McIntyre, Microsol's new regional business manager.
