Sharjah ABU DHABI, 21 Nov, 05 (WAM) - Roof and Cladding Middle East,the region's first and only trade event focusing on roofing,cladding and allied products, will begin at Expo Centre Sharjahon May 2, 2006.

The 3-day event, jointly organised by India's Unitech Exhibitionsand Expo Centre Sharjah, with the support of the Sharjah Chamberof Commerce and Industry (SCCI), will showcase roofing systems,architectural cladding, structural glazing, curtain walling facadesengineering, metal building systems, skylights and domes, waterproofing,and insulation material, according to a press release.

The trade event earlier made its debut as Roof India in 2003in Mumbai as Asia's first roofing technology event. Since thenthe event had met with tremendous success and was subsequentlyheld in Kuala Lumpur in 2004 and in Mumbai again in 2005.

The 2006 show with Cladding Middle East incorporated, is allset to be the largest in the series with a total occupied exhibitionarea of 4,000 sq. m.

"The Middle East, particularly the GCC states, is currentlyundergoing a major construction boom. It is estimated that inthe coming five years, the GCC region alone will spend over USD$ 200 billion on construction projects," said Mr. Fasahat AliKhan, Acting Director General, Expo Centre Sharjah.

"Roofing and cladding are the two most vital components of theconstruction industry. Given the fact that Roof and CladdingMiddle East is the first event of its kind in the region, itis obvious that construction companies keen to penetrate thebooming regional construction market really can't afford notto participate in it," he added.

Within the GCC, it is estimated that in the next 20 years, SaudiArabia will invest over USD $ 300 billion with 26 % of it relatedto construction. Both in Qatar and in the UAE, several majorpublic as well as private projects worth billions of dollarsare either currently underway or planned in the coming years.

Within the Middle East, airports alone are expected to spendapproximately USD $ 7.7 billion every year on upgrades.

In Iraq, the massive reconstruction programme worth over USD$ 150 billion is already in progress.

The enormity of these and several other projects in the regionhave caught the attention of some of the most well known playersin the global construction industry. Roof and Cladding 2006 isaimed at providing the much needed regional platform to thesecompanies.

The Roof and Cladding Middle East 2006, due to its very focusedapproach and extremely exclusive profile, will attract both companiesand personnel, either engaged in the regional construction industryor keen to get associated with it, in substantial numbers asvisitors.

Among those who would be visiting the show are architects, designers,builders, contractors, construction professionals, consultants,and civil and structural engineers.
