RIYADH: The recently convened "Media Dialogue," organized by the Risala Study Circle (RSC) Riyadh zone, highlighted the dangerous tendency of the media in India to be the final word and urged journalists to correct injustices to the wider community.
S. Sharafuddin, managing editor of Risala Weekly and Pravasi Risala monthly, both published in Kerala, expressed the anxiety of Muslims and other downtrodden communities feel due to discrimination in media and education.
The media have ignored Muslim issues and problems, and operate solely for the interests of higher castes, he said, adding that this will result in the decay of our democratic system. The media should not act as self-appointed judges, it should uphold the dignity and freedom of citizens, he said.
The dialogue was presided over by Muneer Kodungallur. Participants included Arshul Ahmed (Chandrika Daily), Naser Karakkunnu (Kairali TV), Najeem Kochukalunk (Madhyamam Daily) and Shihab Kottukad.
