Mauritania plans to set up an "environmental intervention fund", Mauritanie-web reported on Friday (January 15th). The fund aims at mobilising financial resources to repair and mitigate the "damage caused by human activities on fragile ecologies", a cabinet statement said.

As part of its national environmental strategy, Morocco on January 18th will begin holding regional awareness-raising workshops, MAP reported. Speaking on Medi 1 radio, Energy Minister Amina Benkhadra said that the National Charter for the Environment and Sustainable Development reflects Morocco's determination to make environmental protection a national priority.
