DOHA: Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art recently held a workshop and discussion forum in collaboration with W Doha Hotel & Residences, examining what it would take to unlock creativity.
"Mathaf Lab" is a gathering of Qatar-based influencers from diverse art related backgrounds; among them illustrators, writers, film-makers, graphic designers, interior designers, social media personalities and entrepreneurs.
"Mathaf Lab" is a flexible programme designed to carry forward the museum's strategic objective of building relationships with diverse audiences. The labs consist of a short, collaborative work-session, in which participants are invited to brainstorm with Mathaf staff.
"The purpose of our "Mathaf Labs" is to remain focused on our communities' needs and stay on the pulse of the creative community of Qatar. The experimental nature of the sessions allows people to think freely and create new opportunities for themselves, and provides valuable feedback to Mathaf," said Mathaf's Acting Director Michelle Dezember.
The participants discussed ways to grow their creative confidence through skill-sharing, collaboration, and community support. "I got to interact with new people from different creative fields which sparked a lot of passionate and interesting discussions," said young Qatari interior designer Alanoud Al Buainain. "I left feeling very motivated; it was really unlike anything I've experienced in Qatar."
The W Doha Hotel & Residences has always supported the up and coming talents.
"Being fashion, music and design our passion points, our hotel is always committed to support young emerging artists. We serve as a platform for them to showcase their talent and we help them to get exposure here and in the region. There is a lot of potential in this country and we all need to be ready to support them," said W Doha Marketing and Communication Manager, Clara De Lama Ramos. This was the second edition of "Mathaf Lab" following the first one held last May in partnership with Art 21.
