Sunday, 10 February 2008: Dhahran - Applications have opened for the Third Mathematics Olympiad organized by the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) for third and final-year high school students of government and private schools. Registration is until February 18.
To qualify, a participant must have scored 95 percent or more in the 11th grade or the first semester of the 12th grade.
For high schools adopting the letter grading system, the highest grade should be A+, according to the announcement of the organizing committee.
The participant must be a Saudi national or a resident of Saudi Arabia, and must be at least a third-year high school student.
Registration will be through the official website of the Olympiad, http://www.kfupm.edu.sa/mo .
The competition will be conducted in two stages.
The first stage will take place on March 22, 2008 and the second on April 3.
The Olympiad will ba held at seven venues across the country.
The venues are Dhahran Center, Riyadh Center, Jeddah Center, Abha Center, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah Center, and Al-Qasim Center.
KFUPM is the only official national mathematics contest in the country recognized by the International Mathematics Olympiad.
Hundreds of students all over the Kingdom participate in this prestigious annual competition. During the second competition, some 300 students qualified for the final stage.
