MASEN Prequalifies Bidders For First Phase Of Ouarzazate Solar Program
The Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN) announced on 24 December that it has pre-qualified four groups of companies for the development of the first phase of the 500mw Ouarzazate thermal solar plant. The first phase of bidding will be for the design, financing, construction, operation and management of the plant. The pre-qualified applicants are: Abeinsa ICI, Abengoa Solar, Mitsui and Abu Dhabi NEC; ENEL and ACS SCE; International Company for Water and Power (ACWA), Aries IS and TSK EE; and Orascom CI, Solar Millennium and Evonik Steag. This first phase of the Ouarzazate solar complex will incorporate parabolic trough technology. Subsequent phases will be launched in 2011-12 in order to achieve the target of 500mw in operation by 2015. “At least one of these phases will be dedicated to photovoltaic technologies and another one to concentrated solar power tower technologies,” said MASEN. The Moroccan Project for Solar Energy, launched in November 2009, is intended to install 2.0gw of solar capacity over five locations – Ouarzazate, Ain Beni Mathar, Foum al‐Oued, Boujdour and Sebkhat Tah – by 2020 (MEES, 9 August).
