3rd National Manpower Employment Seminar
MUSCAT -- The Manpower Ministry has issued a special handbook spelling out the outlines of its media campaign in support of the objectives of the 3rd National Manpower Employment Seminar. The aim of the media campaign is to spotlight the issues discussed during the national seminar and to impact the conduct and way of thinking of employers, employees and job seekers with regard to the employment of national manpower and the services offered by the Ministry of Manpower. The campaign is targeted at the following categories:
For employers:
To acquaint them with the provisions of the labour law and the need to provide employers the necessary care and protection and ensure an appropriate work environment. It emphasises the importance of paying salaries and wages on time, while also giving staff suitable incentives to enhance their productivity, help them settle down in their jobs, attract more nationals to available job opportunities, and to minimise the employment of expatriate workers.
For employees of the private sector:
To familiarise them with the provisions of the labour law and the importance of working with commitment and in compliance with occupational safety and health regulations. Further, it seeks to highlight the need for workers to safeguard property and tools, while also encouraging them to acquire the required skills and develop their capabilities and thereby enhancing productivity, which in turn furthers their own prosperity and that of their employers.
For job seekers:
To educate them and encourage them to benefit from the job opportunities available in the private sector and utilise the on-job-training opportunities offered by Al Kasb (Gaining) project and those provided by the system of vocational training and technical education and to enhance the spread of entrepreneurship and develop individual initiatives through the Sanad Project.
The media campaign is targeted at employees, individuals, families and society; Job seekers; and Employers and private establishments In line with the Ministry's prerogatives and tasks, the content of this campaign is oriented at the labour sector (employer, employees and job seekers), vocational training and technical education providers (students of basic education and general certificate and parents, teachers at basic and general education institutions, private sector establishments, employees of private establishments who wish to obtain vocational qualifications and those who have such qualification and desire to upgrade their capabilities and skills) and the Sanad Programme ( job seekers, craftsmen who desire to start their own businesses, and those who wish to expand their existing enterprises.
The campaign will utilise a variety of tools and platforms disseminate the key themes of the national seminar: informative bulletins, pamphlets and leaflets; lectures; documentaries; advertisements and posters; guidelines; short messages (SMS), media interviews and meetings. Campaign venues will include mosques (Juma Khutba -- Friday sermons) schools, colleges and universities; media centres; commercial centres, main streets, and sites of public gatherings.
