JEDDAH — The Saudi Spanish Train Projects Company (SSTPC), the operator of the Haramain High-Speed Railway, announced on Saturday the death of a person who was illegally on the train track, near Makkah station.

The company explained in a statement that, approximately at 9:05 a.m. of Saturday morning, an unfortunate collision occurred resulting in a person’s death.

A person was illegally on the railway track about 4 kilometers away from Makkah station, where this accident occurred, leading to his death. The competent authorities dealt with the incident at the time.

The company expressed its deep regret and deep sorrow over the occurrence of this incident, and asked God Almighty to have mercy on the deceased, and extended its sincerest condolences to his family.

The company reiterated to everyone the importance of staying away from the railway bounds and the danger of approaching it. This they said is to ensure the safety of everyone and to prevent a repeat of such incidents in the future.

The Saudi Spanish Projects Company also apologized to all its clients for the delay of some of its trains this morning because of this incident, and confirmed that it has resumed all its scheduled trips as per schedule. — SG
