Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra on Sunday (August 31st) welcomed representatives of the United Nations, African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), APS reported.

The Algiers meeting was to prepare for the second stage of the Mali peace talks this week.

The first stage of the inter-Malian dialogue in Algiers "struck a very positive chord with participants", Lamamra said.

In related news Friday, a delegation from one of the armed rebel groups, the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA), was in Morocco. The talks with Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar focused on the achievement of a lasting political solution with the Malian government, Aufait Maroc reported.
