The Bollywood blockbuster, Main Hoon Na, swept Dubai's first Global Indian Film Awards held at Al Wasl Stadium on Thursday night.
Main Hoon Na was voted best picture of 2004 with Shah Rukh Khan picking up the best actor award for his performance in the movie and Farah Khan taking the best director honours for the same movie. Rani Mukherjee won the best actress award for Hum Tum.
The awards were presented to Hindi films released in 2004 and were chosen by fans from across the Middle East.
The awards brought a galaxy of Indian stars adding glitz and glamour to the function. Held as part of the 10th Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), the event was watched by a few thousand people.
Sameer Khan, VP Global Events and GIFA's official spokesperson, said, "The Global Indian Film Awards found loads of encouragement from the people of Dubai".
Shah Rukh Khan was the star of the night which was lit up by some electrifying performances led by Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Lara Dutta and Shahid Kapur.
Hordes of screaming fans of Shah Rukh Khan perked up the atmosphere at the stadium. The entry of Salman Khan, another Bollywood star, also invited big cheers from the crowd.
Popular star Kareena Kapoor also put up an electrifying performance with her dance troupe. She was later joined by Shahid Kapur.
The awards were presented by popular stars including Salman Khan, John Abraham, Feroz Khan and Bipasha Basu.
The two-and-a-half-hour function also paid tribute to the stars who passed away - Mehmood, Parveen Babi and Amrish Puri.
GIFA was conceptualised to acknowledge excellence in the Indian film industry and honour artists in 23 categories across various genres, from acting to film making.
