Ma'aden Signs Contract For Magnesium Processing Plant

Ma'aden has signed a SR95mn ($25mn) contract with Olayan Descon for the construction of a new mineral processing plant in Madina that will produce around 140,000 tons/year of magnesium carbonate, or magnesite, for the next 20 years. The ore will be transported from the al-Ghazalah magnesite mine to the new plant, which will include kilns, and furnaces for calcining and sintering raw materials. The contract also includes the construction of infrastructure at the al-Ghazalah mine to extract the minerals and supply the new plant at Madina. Ma'aden is investing about SR60bn ($16bn) to develop the Kingdom’s phosphate, bauxite, gold and industrial minerals and in 2008 its gold output reached 146,000 ounces.
