National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and the Presidential Office's Scientific and Technological Department have signed an agreement to set up a fund for granting low-profit loans to private knowledge-based companies active in the oil industry.
NIOC's director for research and technology, Ali Emadi, said that based on the agreement, the two sides are expected to allocate approximately $3,300,000 to the fund, IRNA reported.
"To motivate the country's researchers and experts, it is predicted that they can use 51 percent of the companies' share and get the related facilities," he said.
Emadi added that technical know-how must be commercialized in the oil industry.
"Some chemicals, though less used in oil industry, are of high importance in oil and gas production," he said, adding that NIOC's research and technology management has targeted 22 strategic materials.
"Stanford University, with 2,000 knowledge-based companies, earns $60 billion annually," he said, adding that in case such companies are supported, the oil industry can achieve an excellent status in the region and the world.
"Changing the company from operation-based to knowledge-based is one of the main approaches of the research and technology management."
So far, 11 technology projects, including those for increasing production, promoting geosciences and maintaining oil and gas production, have been prepared.
Emadi also said 218 research projects have been designed and are ready for implementation, while 133 projects are awaiting ratification.
