Libyan government officials, the UN envoy to Libya and more than 350 female candidates for the upcoming national elections gathered in Tripoli on Monday (June 25th) to recognise the role of women during the February 17 revolution, Libya Herald reported.
"Women and men should work together as a team to rebuild Libya," Interim Prime Minister Abdurrahim El Keib told attendees, noting that women could make important contributions to politics, education and the economy.
Libya recently launched a committee to help support women's participation in politics, NTC member Gada El-Raied told conference participants.
High National Elections Commission head Nuri Abbar also noted that 45 per cent of registered voters in Libya were female.
