The latest Toyota recall in North America and Canada will not affect vehicles in the UAE market, an official spokesperson of Al Futtaim Motors the dealers in Toyota here said on Saturday.

The Japanese car maker announced on Thursday it has recalled about one to 1.3 million Corolla sedans and Matrix hatchbacks because their engines may stall.

"We have no fresh plans to recall Corolla vehicles in the UAE. The decision in North American and Canada to recall Corolla Sedans and Matrix hatchbacks does not affect us in the UAE," said Victoria Jacks, Corporate Communication Officer handling Al Futtaim Motors.

The recall issued Thursday covers vehicles from the 2005-2008 model years sold in North America, including 136,000 Corollas and 64,300 Matrixes in Canada.

Three accidents and one minor injury have been reported, though Toyota said a link to the engine issue has not been confirmed. Toyota has recalled more than 10 million vehicles worldwide over the past year for a range of problems, including faulty gas pedals, floor mats that can trap accelerators and braking problems in its Prius hybrid.
