The Larsen & Toubro Modular Fabrication Yard at the Port of Sohar in Oman is preparing to dispatch a cargo of steel piles destined for a gas platform off the west coast of India.
The pipes will form part of a compressor platform off Gujurat operated by India's state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), where gas will be compressed before being pumped to the onshore terminal at Hazira through an existing pipeline.
The delivery is L&T MFY's maiden order, paving the way for the launch of commercial operations at the Oman's first project specialising in the fabrication of offshore structures, the company said.
The facility will begin work in December on its next major fabrication order, involving the supply of decks, jacket, flare towers, piles, risers and piping for Maersk Oil.
L&T MFY is a joint venture between Indian engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen & Toubro and the Zubair Corporation of Oman.
