Dubai, Feb 20th, 2011 (WAM) -- The Steering Committee of UAE's Labor Market Information System project held its first meeting today at the Labour Ministry in Dubai.

The meeting comes in response to directives of Labour Minister Saqr Ghobash Ghobash to promote mutual understanding with all partners of the labor market in order to contribute to the regulation and control of the labor market in the country, under an agreement signed between the Ministry of Labour and the World Bank.

The meeting was chaired by Yousef Abdul Ghani, Assistant Undersecretary for Policy Affairs at the Ministry of Labour and was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Labour, the National Human Resource Development & Employment Authority (Tanmia), the National Emiratisation (Tawteen) Council, the National Center for Statistics, the Statistics Center of Dubai, Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi, Free Zones of Dubai and Sharjah, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Federal Human Resources Authority and experts from the World Bank.

The labor market information systems project comes within the framework of an agreement signed between the Ministry of Labour and the World Bank last December that called for the implementation of programme for technical cooperation to improve the job opportunities for Emirati citizens and develop labour market information systems in the UAE.
