Opposition Targets Al-Ajman Tribe
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 29: "We need only two more MPs as we already have the support of 23 to vote out the prime minister on Jan 5" Kuwait's opposition members of Parliament said late Wednesday evening.
"And we are certain we will be able to muster the required support by that date, which has been set to vote on the non-cooperation motion against Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al Sabah," they added. A total of 25 votes are required to pass the no-confidence motion.
They were speaking at a seminar on "People's Rights and their Dignities" which was held at Diwaniya of former Municipality Council member, Fuhaid Saqr Al-Ajmi in Abu Halifa.
MP Musallam Al-Barrak said this government had failed and a number of its ministers like Dr Mohammed Al-Busairi, Raudhan Al-Raudhan, Moudi Al-Hamoud, Dr Mohammed Al-Afasi and Dr Hilal Sayer had been expected to present their resignations.
Al-Barrak disclosed that during Tuesday's closed session he had asked the prime minister three times whether it was HH the Amir who ordered the special forces to beat the MPs and the citizens during the seminar at Jamaan Al-Harbash's Diwaniya recently but the prime minister had not responded to this question.
He praised the Al-Ajman tribe, the organizers of the seminar for supporting the opposition MPs and hoped that the remaining two MPs would come from amongst them, adding that on Jan 5 the prime minister will run away from the Al-Ajman tribe to make it a historic day. Al-Barrak added his aim was not to apply pressure on MPs Khalid Al-Adwa and Dr Mohammed Al-Huwailah, from the Ajman, who have still not made up their minds on how to vote on the non-cooperation motion.
MP Daifullah Buramiya stressed that this government didn't deserve to stay and that the remaining two votes will be obtained from the Al-Ajmi in the Fifth Constituency. He added the current government was corrupt and embezzling public fund which meant that a new government was needed to manage the country properly." On Jan 5 all Kuwaiti people will be set free", he added.
MP Khalid Al-Tahoous said" I am appealing to my colleagues Khalid Al-Adwa and Mohammed Al-Huwailah and I am sure on Jan 5 they will support the motion and come back to Al-Ajman tribe proud of their action." He also accused government of sponsoring the corrupt media which he said was undermining the national unity and fomenting unrest in the society.
MP Mubarak Al-Walam asked the prime minister to step down "because the non-cooperation motion was a message from Kuwait asking him to leave." He added Kuwait people will not accept any humiliation.
Al-Humaidi Al Al-Subaiei, lawyer of Dr Obaid Al-Wasmi said that he recently met Al-Wasmi who was still detained by the state security and the truth was that the charges that had been leveled against Al-Wasmi were actually from "a pocket" and not from the State Security as the government had claimed, adding that the original charges had not included "offending the Amir." He said that those who had assaulted Dr Wasmi had been freed while Dr Wasmi was still in detention.
He disclosed that the names of all who had been involved in the Al-Wasmi case have been presented to the authorities and they will soon appear in court.
The seminar was attended by nearly 1,500 people including MPs Mubarak Walan, Musallam Al-Barrak, Khalid Al-Tahous, Falah Al-Sawagh, Al-Saifi Mubarak Al-Saifi, Daifullah Buramiya and former Secretary General of National Alliance Bloc Khalid Al-Fadhalah, former MP Abdullah Bargash, Lawyer Al-Humaidi Al-Subai and member of Municipal Council Manei Al-Al-Ajmi. There was a heavy security presence at the seminar which ended without any incident.
