KUWAIT: The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Bader Al-Duwaila disclosed that the ministry is currently conducting a study on issues concerning laborers. The study, he said, involves compiling a report on implementing precautionary measures aimed at preventing strikes.

After the report is compiled, it will then be sent to the Cabinet for approval. He also discussed the issue with some ministry officials and updated them on recent decisions that were implemented to avoid strikes. Steps have also been taken to educate and encourage laborers to play a positive role in building the country, he added. He reaffirmed that the minimum wages set for cleaners is KD 40 while KD 70 has been set for security guards.

Companies have also been strictly warned against deducting any amount for accommodation or transportation from the salaries of workers, reported Al-Qabas. Several errant companies have been referred to an investigation committee after they violated labor laws, he added.
