Planning decree prohibits creation of new ... areas: Sabeh

KUWAIT CITY - The Director General of Kuwait Municipality Engineer Ahmad Al-Sabeh says the proposed transformation of blocks 1, 2, 3, 4, 13 and 21 in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh from a private residential area to an investment residential area contradicts the structural plan, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Al-Sabeh disclosed a study on the proposal, which the Municipal Council member Farz Al-Mutairi sponsored, is yet to be tabled before the Municipal Council. He explained the planning decree prohibits the creation of new investment residential areas.

He noted the previous Municipal Council issued a decision on property ownership in those areas, including areas 19 and 20, which the Council of Ministers opposed, saying the last order approved property ownership in areas 19 and 20 because they were close to bachelors' residence, and it was detrimental to the interests of Kuwaitis who were majority of the residents.

He stressed the issue was referred to the Property Ownership Withdrawal Department to complete procedures.

However, Deputy Chairperson of the Municipal Council Shaya'e Al-Shaya'e rejected Al-Sabeh's explanations on the structural plan recommendations which prohibit the creation of new investment residential areas.

He said there are new reports and recommendations in that regard, which will be presented to the leadership of the council, and the Structural Plan Department to transform some private residential areas to investment residential areas.

He argued the council members silence and accepting such responses from the administration of the Municipality could stand against the proposal and it would amount to injustice, even as the council members will not allow unfair treatment to any citizen.
