Indian, Pakistani, Filipino schools to benefit
KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Education has allowed Indian, Pakistani and Philippine schools to hike their school fees with effect from the academic year 2006-2007, reports Al-Anba daily. The Private Education Department at the ministry accepted the demand of Kuwait Union for Private School Owners to raise the fees as there has been no hike since 1999 though American, British, French and Bilingual schools have repeatedly changed their fee structure. "This had forced large number of parents to enroll their children in Indian, Pakistani and Philippine schools from KG till secondary level," add sources.
According to sources, 60 percent students in these schools are Kuwaitis and of Arab nationalities as they are not able to afford the increasing fees in American, British, French and bilingual schools. The union stated that by hiking school fees, they will be able to increase salaries of teachers and the administration staff. The permission has been granted only after schools promised to offer better services, add sources.
