KUWAIT: MP Mohammed Hayef announced that he would suggest allotting the sum of KD 5 billion for developmental reforms. The MP also noted that he would ask the government to present a scheduled agenda for these reforms. Hayef, along with a group of his colleagues, asserted that Kuwait's current financial surplus is predicted to exceed KD 30 billion over the next two years. He pointed out that these funds need to be utilized in the best way possible.
He noted that the government would trigger a phase of development by allotting special funds of at least KD 5 billion to reform and develop educational, health, housing and power services.
Meanwhile, Minister of Justice, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Hussein Al-Huraiti responded to an earlier inquiry made by Hayef concerning maintenance work at certain mosques. Al-Huraiti noted that the ministry did not repair any mosques unless it actually needed some repair work. The minister also denied that process was randomly done and noted that it was not done for the benefit of certain people.
In another development, MP Dr Ali Al-Amir, Islamic Salafist Alliance member, revealed a part of the political group's agenda for the upcoming parliamentary term. He explained that the proposal will address the issue of developing a part of the public sector.
Al-Amir said that the Salafists have started organizing paperwork to draft its work plan for the coming period. The priorities will be listed only after coordinating with the council's officials. He added "we shall present a bill to form a Supreme Council for development". He went on to say that both private and public sector should participate to solve the housing problem.
About the 'sharia' issue, he said that the Alliance is currently trying to arrange a meeting with the Supreme Council in order to discuss implementing Islamic law in the country.
