CAIRO, July 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Higher Institute of Musical Arts (HIMA) has eminent music instructors as well as students with exceptional talents and competence in the art of music, a Kuwaiti professor said here on Wednesday.
The institute's dean professor Bandar Abeid told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) 60 percent of the instructors in the institute are highly skilled and exceptionally competent in music.
On the sideline of Abeid's visit to Cairo to employ PhD music instructors, the Kuwaiti professor said "Kuwaiti music instructors holding a PhD degree are a source of pride to Kuwait.
"Nevertheless we need to attract talented foreign musicians to work in Kuwait in order to benefit from their musical expertise."
Abeid hailed Egypt for its constant cooperation with Kuwait in the music field.
The Kuwaiti music professor pointed out that HIMA has been the sole musical institute in the gulf region for more than 36 years,
HIMA offers scholarships to GCC students interested in learning music, he stated.
Around 50 HIMA students graduate annually, the dean said adding that most of the graduates pursue their careers as music teachers at Kuwaiti Ministry of Education's institutes.
Abeid lauded the role of the institute's founder Ahmad Baqer for his relentless efforts to upgrade the art of music in the country.
The institute aims at developing the culture of music and abstract musical sciences in the Kuwaiti society, he said
It incorporates departments such as composition, voice, musical instruments, Arab music, Arabic singing, music education and fundamental education, he concluded.
