KUWAIT: Aiming to play a vital role in treating and recycling waste, the Arab International Industrial Projects Company (AIIP) inaugurated its biggest factory in Kabd yesterday. "AIIP was established with the desire of preserving the environment, and today it's executing the most number of projects that apply international solutions and innovations to recycle environmental waste, especially industrial waste, both local and regional.

It continuously encourages complementary projects and scientific solutions to preserve the environment and recycle waste," said Yaser Al-Jafar, Chairman of AIIP during the opening session. Minister of Public Works and State Minister of Municipal Affairs Dr Fadhel Safar and members of the board of AIIP attended the event. "This inauguration is the result of years of hard work and success. This factory puts AIIP on par with international companies working in the waste management field. And this factory becomes the basic pillar of support for the national economy and our country's environment," added Al-Jafar.

Regardless of the obstacles faced in the beginning, in the absence of expected support and suitable infrastructure for environment-friendly projects, I still believe in our desire to preserve the environment through a correct investment policy and work morals. This has helped us launch this factory today," he added.
We were always able to offer products made from recycled construction materials. We have taken good steps to protect the environment. The work continues to open up new horizons. We also realize the responsibility of our clients from public and private sectors," highlighted Al-Jafar.

The factory to treat industrial waste and recycling was built in accordance with the Build-Operate-Transfer system in Kabd covering an area of 257,000 square meters. This space includes the administration buildings and laboratory, the center of operations and logistic services, reception and weighing products and a sales center, the factory, and warehouse.

Fadhel Al-Oun, the company's Managing Director said that the factory receives 2.25 million tons of construction waste every year. "This waste is stored as primary material. The factory achieved an average monthly production of 545,000 tons (650,000 tons every year). The 'clinker' comprises about 63 percent of waste. This is followed by broken sand at 21 percent, and the rest is 'breaker dirt' that is used in the mixture.

The company is expected to recycle material that total to one million ton every year. The pioneering project will be performed by the private sector, as it decreases the space of landfills," he explained. Al-Jafar stated that the current production of the factory is being marketed locally to cover the local needs. The company plans to create an effective share in Kuwait's market, depending on the size of projects undertaken.

Creating such a factory has enabled us to achieve development goals from which the country will benefit. This is coincides with executing the biggest development plan in the history of Kuwait," he pointed out. Al-Jafar concluded by outlining the factory's main goal. "These will benefit waste management by rehabilitating landfills in the past.

The factory provides about 1,000 meters of land into which garbage has been flung, in addition to preserving state property that can be used for future development plans and projects. It also provides job opportunities for citizens, decreasing the high cost the government spends on treating landfills. Finally, it preserves the natural desert environment from soil, plants, and creatures.
